17 - We are BACK!

The Drake has been completed!!

ree

We left Palmer and started going up the peninsula, and it was such a beautiful day! Everything was calm and quiet and before we left we spotted some elephant seals playing in the water!

When we finally started the Drake, there was a lot of wind (around 20 knots) so we didn’t even need a motor, we were able to sail at good speed most of the time! We played cards, and we all had a chance to relax and sleep, taking shifts at night to watch out for icebergs and to make sure the boats going the right way. I usually stayed at the captains bridge with whoever had the shift -usually I came to late shifts- like at midnight- and talked to the shift person so they wouldn’t stay alone while everyone slept. It was fun to give company and i've learned a LOT!

We slept too much in the Drake lol it was crazy! Marina vomited twice the first day, had a slightly better second day (Poor Sis). but even so she was incredibly brave and NEVER complained. This kiddo is amazing!

That was until the wind died down and we were blessed and surprised to have a "Drake Lake". It was so calm and enjoyable - Unbelievable! . Also, this was my first actual night (In Antartica's summer, the sun never really sets) in a month! It was actually night and dark. :D -if you think about it, my first night since last year lol-

Fourth day we even saw dolphin/whales! -dolphin or whale? It looked like a dolphin but its classified whale?- they are PILOT whales, very rare to see! and by the very end of the day: LAND ON SIGHT! Yay!

Its amazing outside and right now i'm sitting in my bunk, writing these exact words :)
